Emmanuel’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is fast approaching! For over 15 years, we have provided Thanksgiving Dinner to thousands of guests, serving meals at the church and delivering them to the homebound. Last year we served 609 meals alone! Dinner is served in the Common Room from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Planning is underway and we invite you to help with setup, service, delivery, cleanup, hosting, and provision of cooked, boneless turkey breast and hams. If you would like to get involved please call Melissa in the church office at 706-543-1294 x 201.

International stage and television star Calvin Smith returns to the legendary Morton Theatre for the original production Calvin Smith in A Night of 100 Stars: Celebrating 100 Years on the Hot Corner. For one night only, “Pink” Morton’s stage will revisit its illustrious past of vaudeville, jazz, and cinema. Calvin Smith is holding open auditions for chorale members on November 15 at 6pm at the Morton Theatre. Interested individuals should prepare a song. Also featured in this historic production will be Rosa Thurmond, Boo Ray, musical direction by Mark Maxwell, and choreography by Lois Thomas-Ewings and Calvin Smith.
Calvin Smith in A Night of 100 Stars: Celebrating 100 Years on the Hot Corner will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2010. The Morton Theatre Board and Honorary Centennial Committee Members, Michael Thurmond, Homer Wilson, and Milton Leathers, will host a Gala Reception (Black Tie optional) before the show to be catered by Epting Events at Casa Mia at 6:00pm. The show will start at 8:30pm followed by a dessert reception in the theatre. Tickets are $15 for the bleachers, $25 for the balcony, and $35 for the floor and an additional $10 can be added to each ticket price to attend the dessert reception. $100 tickets allow you to attend the gala, show, and dessert reception. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 11, 2010 and can be purchased at the Morton Theatre Box Office (weekdays from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and again from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and online at www.mortontheatre.com. We are pleased to announce that the proceeds from the 2010 Centennial Celebration will benefit MORE. MORE (Morton OutReach Experience) is an ongoing series of educational programs that brings lessons of history, culture, and theater to life for young children. The Morton Theatre, located at 195 West Washington Street, is a unit of the Arts Division of the Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services, and is managed by the Morton Theatre Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
