With the spring season here, local Athenians are enjoying longer days, warmer weather, and the anticipation of the 32nd annual Twilight Criterium. Founded in 1980 by Gene Dixon with a humble field of 40 competitors, Twilight has since grown to attract 150 of the world’s top cyclists, along with 30,000 spectators. Every year in late April, downtown closes off its streets to complete a 1km course.Crowds converge on the heart of Athens to watch a high intensity, high speed, 80km race through the street lit roads of The Classic City.Through the years, Twilight has expanded into a two day event packed with fun for the whole family. Activities include a 5K, kids twilight race and kid zone, BMX contest, live music, local food vendors, and eight separate race classes, all leading up to the main event.Don’t miss the highlight of the Athens’ spring calendar!
