Since the beginning of summer, many Athenians have been eagerly anticipating the calendar event of the year, Athfest. For those unaware or unfamiliar with the event, Athfest is one of the Southeast’s premier music and arts festivals, taking place annually right here in Athens, GA. Founded in 1997 by Jared Bailey, Athfest has forever been a showcase for local Athens musicians. Local legends such as Pylon, Drive-By Truckers, and Randall Bramblett have graced the Athfest Main Stage, and this year bands such as The Futurebirds, Chickasaw Mudpuppies, Guadalcanal Diary, and many more will look to do the same. Starting this Friday and continuing through Sunday evening, over 200 bands will play on three outdoor stages, and over a dozen of Athens’ best music clubs.  In addition to music, many of Athens’ finest artists and vendors will be setting up downtown. All the outdoor music is free, and events such as Kidsfest make this a fun event for the whole family. If you plan on cruising the bars after sunset, invest $15 in a wristband so you can see all your favorite bands and avoid those cover charges.
